In the latest trailer for Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon released Thursday, the Alola region has gained more notable figures from the Kanto region of the original GameFreak titles Pokémon Red, Pokémon Blue, and Pokémon Yellow. On top of the previously announced Alolan form Kanto Pokémon, Red and Blue, the protagonist and his rival from the original trio of games, will appear on the tropical islands to challenge trainers at the Battle Tree. Proving the games are all connected with Alola as the crux, even Sinnoh League Champion Cynthia can be battled at the tree for a comprehensive look back on the series.

As for new Pokémon, the final evolutions for the three new Alolan starters have been revealed. The owl creature Rowlet’s final form, Decidueye, keeps the Grass typing and gains Ghost for the exclusive move Spirit Shackle, which keeps the opposing Pokémon from running from battle or switching out. Adorable kitten Pokémon Litten becomes the ferocious Incineroar, which earns the Dark typing for extra advantage in battle. Its exclusive move, Darkest Lariat, ignores any stat change of the enemy Pokémon to deliver massive damage. Last up, the cute seel Popplio becomes Primarina, the Water and Fairy type. Sparkling Aria is a soothing move the dancing creature can learn, which heals the target of burns.

Look for a Blue Band

Veteran eclipse watchers will tell you that if you look really hard right at the beginning and just before the end of totality, you may detect a light blue or turquoise band on the Moon's face (see image). This happens because the Earth's ozone layer scatters red light and lets through some of the blue light that is otherwise filtered out by other layers of the atmosphere.

Many Shades of Red

The Moon can take on different shades of red, orange, or gold during a total lunar eclipse, depending on the conditions of the Earth's atmosphere at the time of the eclipse. The amount of dust particles, water droplets, clouds, and mist can all have an effect on the shade of red. Volcanic ash and dust in the atmosphere can also lead to the Moon turning dark during an eclipse.

Fun fact: If you were lucky enough to see a total lunar eclipse from the Moon, you'd see a red ring around the Earth. In effect, you'd be seeing all the sunrises and sunsets taking place at that specific moment on Earth!

Scientists measure the appearance and brightness of a total lunar eclipse using a five-point scale—ranging from 0 to 4—called the Danjon Scale (see image). A lunar eclipse is ranked and assigned a value on the scale at the time of mid-totality.
